RNC 2012: Florida gay Republicans welcome GOP convention
TAMPA, Fla. — Undaunted by an impeding hurricane that led to the cancellation of the first day of the Republican National Convention, gay GOP leaders in Florida hosted a welcoming event Sunday for convention participants interested in a more LGBT-inclusive Republican Party.

Hal Sparks, from ‘Queer As Folk’ to real-life role as comedian, straight ally
Hal Sparks burst into stardom while playing the role of Michael Novotney in “Queer As Folk” (QAF), the controversial but popular series that ran on Showtime from 2000 to 2005. He was one of the straight guys to be cast as a key gay character on QAF, and playing the role gave him a huge public platform to discuss why he is an outspoken straight ally of the LGBT community.

Mormon-owned NBC affiliate refuses to air gay-themed sitcom
The NBC television affiliate in Salt Lake City, Utah — which is owned by the Mormon Church — said it will not air a new gay-themed sitcom, calling it “inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.”

As we in the gay community continue the fight for gay marriage – there is still the ground-swell of: “Why do you need to be married? Can’t you just have a lawyer draw up all the legal papers you need? Just be domestic partners, that will give you all the legal rights you need.”

FRC shooting suspect found mentally competent, pleads not guilty
Floyd Lee Corkins II, 28, a former part-time volunteer for D.C.’s LGBT community center, pleaded not guilty in federal court on Friday to three charges related to last week’s shooting at the downtown D.C. headquarters of the Family Research Council, one of the nation’s leading anti-gay groups.
