Donald Trump’s former pastor is speaking out after the President started proclaiming his support for forcing children to study the Bible in public schools.
Pastor David Lewicki took to Twitter to clarify that while Trump likes to claim he’s a member of Marble Church is New York City, he never actually stepped foot in the building to attend a service or Bible study.
After nationwide outcry, Trump and his evangelical supporters have now suggested the studies should be optional, allowing parents to “opt in” to the lessons. The Bible class would replace a civics course if a proposed bill in North Dakota passes.
I was Donald Trump’s pastor for 5 years at Marble Church,” he tweeted. “I assure you, he had the ‘option’ to come to Bible study. He never ‘opted’ in. Nor did he ever actually enter the church doors. Not one time.”
