Some Democrats are outraged at out Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) for a message she posted about the Olympics that many believe was a “coded” message about President Joe Biden.

Alex Morgan is a soccer player who played on the U.S. Olympic team in 2012 in London, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, and 2021 in Tokyo but didn’t make the team for this year’s games in Paris.

“Today, I’m disappointed about not having the opportunity to represent our country on the Olympic stage,” Morgan posted to social media. “This will always be a tournament that is close to my heart and I take immense pride any time I put on the crest.”

“In less than a month, I look forward to supporting this team and cheering them on alongside the rest of our country. LFG [let’s freakin’ go].”

Quite a few people responded to her post by calling it a “snub” and “disrespect” to leave her off the Olympic team, but Nessel had a different point of view.

“I adore Alex Morgan,” Nessel wrote. “One of the greatest of all time. But she’s aged significantly from her prime playing days & gracefully accepted that in order to win the gold it was time to pass the baton.”

Morgan is 35.

“No one will ever forget her incredible accomplishments, but Alex just wants what’s best for the team and for America. That’s what makes her a true champion.”

Many people on X considered this a coded message about President Joe Biden. Only a handful of elected Democratic officials have publicly asked Biden to quit the 2024 presidential election after his performance at the first debate with Donald Trump two weeks ago, which many Democrats believed showed that Biden was too old to take on Trump in the fall.

Democratic voters – not just elected officials – are divided on the question of whether Biden should drop out, even though Biden himself has said repeatedly that he is not dropping out of the campaign. Many people believe that Biden dropping out would be disruptive and undemocratic enough to put Trump back in the White House. Biden won the 2024 Democratic primary with millions of votes. Others believe that Vice President Kamala Harris could more easily defeat Trump in November.

On X, Nessel was harshly criticized by the former group.
