The man who claims that 17% of gay men eat feces and that the death penalty would deter people from homosexuality says Martin Luther King Jr. is in Hell and “abolitionists were not the good guys.”

Joel Webbon’s latest loathsome screed went down in an interview with Confederate apologist Jon Harris on the hate preacher’s YouTube podcast Theology Applied.

“Like, I think a lot of people are gonna be surprised,” Webbon said. “You know, when you get to Heaven and, you know, you’re spending eternity worshipping Christ next to ‘Stonewall’ Jackson and Robert E. Lee.” Both Jackson and Lee are Confederate military generals who traitorously declared war on the United States in order to continue enslaving Black people.

Civil rights legend Martin Luther King, Webbon predicted, “is in Hell,” and according to Harris, “most of the abolitionists,” especially the “prominent ones,” are “not going to be in Heaven.”

“They weren’t the good guys,” Webbon agreed.

Webbon is the hate pastor at Covenant Bible Church in Texas and founder of the Christian nationalist-based Right Response Ministries. His retrograde evangelizing has coincided with peak MAGA insanity in 2024, as far-right conservatives buckle under the weight of their fatuous worldview and fealty to Donald Trump, who is sundowning before their very eyes.

In response, acolytes like Webbon are getting even crazier.

In June, Webbon went off on “degenerate” gays.

“The key characteristic of the gay community is butt sex. That’s the key characteristic. It’s feces. That’s the key characteristic. It’s AIDS, it’s disease. And it needs to be said, because nobody has said it for a very long time,” he said.

Webbon suggested that death, as a “maximum penalty,” would act as a deterrent to homosexuality, and he delighted in gaming out the penalties for gay men in a Handmaid’s Tale-level Christian nationalist nation.

“If you got somebody who sleeps with another man, and there’s witnesses—that’s the other thing, there would have to be two or three witnesses, not just hearsay, they had to actually see it occur, or the person gives their own confession — and even then, it didn’t necessarily mean the death penalty. It could,” he said.

Webbon also heartily agreed with a guest that 17% of gay men regularly eat feces.

A month earlier in a sermon at his Texas church, Webbon targeted all Americans as “degenerates” and asserted the Constitution is no longer adequate to govern a nation of “lawlessness and wickedness.”

America needs a Christian dictator who “just rules with an iron fist,” Webbon asserted, one who is “unapologetically Christian and he comes in with a sword and says, ‘I’m sorry, but lawlessness and wickedness will not be tolerated anymore.’”

“He doesn’t go around forcing conversions,” Webbon preached, “but instead, what he does is he forces external morality. He doesn’t force a change of heart; only the Gospel can do that. But what a king can do is he can say, ‘Whether you’re degenerate or not, you’re going to pretend. You’re at least going to pretend to be Christian.’”
