JD Vance tried to insult Tim Walz. It backfired spectacularly.

When reporters asked Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) how he’s preparing for the October 1 vice presidential debate against Democratic nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Vance replied, “I have a friend who embellishes and lies a lot, I’m having him stand in for Tim Walz.”

Naturally, Vance’s attempt at an insult didn’t land as intended with online commenters, particularly because his running mate, former President Donald Trump, is a notorious liar who told an estimated 30,573 lies over his four years in office and an estimated 162 lies and distortions during a recent 64-minute news conference.

Numerous commenters remarked that he must be practicing with Trump himself. One commenter referred to Vance as “JV,” as in “junior varsity,” a reference to Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ August 6 comment that a matchup between Walz and Vance is like “a matchup between the varsity team and the JV squad.”

Walz has nearly two decades of governing experience, including serving in the U.S. House for 12 years and served in the military for 24 years. Comparatively, Vance has one year, seven months and three weeks of governing experience and served in the military for four years.
